When you hear the word boudoir, what comes to mind? Lingerie? Sexy poses? Beautiful photographs?
Yes, boudoir photography can include all of those things. But after photographing so many women and seeing what happens before, during, and after their sessions, I can tell you that boudoir is about much more than that.
To me, boudoir photography is a form of self-expression. It’s an opportunity for a woman to explore a different side of herself, feel beautiful in her own skin, and create intimate portraits that she probably never imagined having.
And no, you don’t need to be a model, have a perfect body, or be a certain age to experience it.
Let me explain what boudoir really is, what you can expect from a professional session, and why I believe every woman deserves to experience it at least once.
Boudoir photography is a style of intimate portrait photography that celebrates a woman’s beauty, femininity, sensuality, and individuality.
It can be romantic, elegant, playful, dramatic, or artistic. Some women love soft, natural-looking portraits, while others are drawn to dramatic lighting, shadows, silhouettes, and black-and-white images.
And here’s something important: boudoir doesn’t automatically mean lingerie or nudity.
Your session can be as covered or as revealing as you feel comfortable with.
I’ve photographed women wearing an off-the-shoulder top, beautiful bodysuits, lingerie, and nothing at all for tasteful, artistic nude portraits.
There is no rule about how much skin you need to show to create beautiful boudoir photography.
The goal is to create portraits that feel like you, while perhaps introducing you to a side of yourself you haven’t seen before.

Absolutely not!
These are actually the two biggest concerns I hear from women who contact me about boudoir photography.
The first is weight. The second is age.
So many women believe they need to be in the best shape of their lives before showing some skin in front of a camera.
They tell themselves they’ll book when they lose 10 or 20 pounds, when their stomach is flatter, or when they feel more comfortable with their bodies.
But here’s what I want you to understand: boudoir photography isn’t a reward for reaching a certain weight.
Your body doesn’t have to change before you deserve beautiful photographs of yourself.
As a professional photographer, my job is to understand posing, lighting, angles, and how to work with your body to create portraits you’ll love.
You don’t need to figure any of that out. That’s why you’re hiring me!
I work with your body as it is today, always respecting your comfort level and the features you want to celebrate.
Boudoir Photography Has No Age Limit
Another misconception is that boudoir is something women do only in their 20s or 30s.
I’ve photographed women in their 60s and created some absolutely beautiful, intimate portraits.
Sensuality doesn’t disappear with age.
In fact, I think there’s something wonderful about photographing a woman who has lived, grown, and experienced so much. She brings all of that with her into the studio.
Whether you’re 30, 45, 60, or beyond, you’re not too old for boudoir photography.
I wish more women understood that.
This is one of the questions women ask most often, and my answer is always the same: we’ll figure it out together.
You don’t need to show up with a suitcase full of expensive lingerie.
Depending on your personal style and comfort level, wardrobe options can include:
I also offer access to my studio client closet, so we can explore additional wardrobe options.
Before your photoshoot, I send a complete preparation and styling guide with wardrobe ideas, advice, and tips to help you feel ready.
We’ll talk about what you love, what you don’t love, and how you want your portraits to feel.
You never have to wear something simply because you think it’s what boudoir photography is supposed to look like.

One of the things I hear constantly is, “I have no idea how to pose!”
And that’s completely fine.
You’re not supposed to know how to pose. That’s my job.
My boudoir experience starts with a phone call.
I believe in energy and connection, and I think it’s important that you hear my voice, get a sense of my personality, and feel comfortable asking questions before making a decision.
You’re trusting someone to photograph you in a very personal way. You should feel good about the person behind the camera.
Once you book, we begin planning your session, including styling, wardrobe, and the overall look of your portraits.
On the day of your session, we start with professional hair and makeup.
This is a chance to relax, settle into the studio, and enjoy being taken care of before we begin photographing.
Then we move into the photoshoot, trying different outfits, lighting setups, and poses.
I don’t expect you to walk into my studio and suddenly know what to do.
I guide you through everything, from where to place your hands and how to position your shoulders to the smallest movements that make a difference in a photograph.
We play with poses, lighting, shadows, and outfits to create a variety of images.
And yes, sometimes I’ll ask you to move in ways that might feel a little strange!
But there’s a reason behind every direction.
My job is to make you look beautiful while helping you feel comfortable throughout the process.
Oh, absolutely!
Almost every woman who comes into my studio is nervous, especially for boudoir.
Think about it. You’re about to take off some of your clothes in front of someone you don’t know very well. Of course that can feel intimidating!
I completely understand that.
But one of my favorite things about photographing women is watching what happens as the session progresses.
I’ve seen women go from extremely nervous at the beginning to laughing, relaxing, and feeling completely comfortable in front of my camera.
That change is something I get to witness over and over again.
I make sure the energy in my studio is positive and encouraging. I’m there to guide you, cheer you on, and make the experience enjoyable.
We talk, we laugh, we try different things, and little by little, the nerves begin to disappear.
You don’t have to arrive feeling confident.
Sometimes confidence is something you discover along the way.
The experience doesn’t end when we put the camera away.
A couple of days after your session, we meet again for what I call the big reveal.
This is when you get to see your portraits for the first time.
For many women, it’s one of the most exciting parts of the entire experience.
They’re seeing themselves through a professional photographer’s eyes, with beautiful lighting, thoughtful posing, and an artistic approach.
And sometimes they’re genuinely surprised by what they see.
I help my clients go through their portraits, choose their favorites, and decide how they’d like to enjoy them.
Some women want a beautiful boudoir album. Others choose wall art or a collection of images they’ll keep privately.
I guide you through those decisions too, because I want you to enjoy the entire experience, not feel overwhelmed by the choices.

Yes! A boudoir album can be a beautiful, personal gift for a partner, especially for Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, a wedding, or another special occasion.
I completely respect and love that reason for booking.
But I have a slightly different way of looking at it.
Even when you’re creating the photographs as a gift for someone else, the experience is still yours.
You’re the one who gets to spend time doing something different, explore your sensuality, step outside your comfort zone, and see yourself in a new way.
Giving your partner an album doesn’t take any of that away.
And I have to admit something: I especially love when women book a boudoir photoshoot just for themselves.
No anniversary. No birthday. No special occasion.
Just because they want to.
I think there’s something wonderful about that.

Every woman has her own reason.
Some are celebrating a milestone birthday. Some want to reconnect with themselves after years of focusing on everyone else. Some are looking for a confidence boost, while others simply want to create beautiful, intimate portraits.
And some are just curious!
Whatever the reason, I believe boudoir can be an empowering experience because it allows you to see yourself differently.
It’s not about becoming someone else for the camera.
It’s about discovering what was already there, perhaps a side of yourself you haven’t paid much attention to lately.
That is what makes this kind of photography so special to me.
If you’ve been thinking about it, my answer is simple: now.
Not when you lose weight. Not when you turn a certain age. Not when everything in your life feels perfect.
Now.
Time goes by incredibly fast. Before you know it, another five or ten years have passed, and you’re still thinking about something you wanted to do a long time ago.
And this applies to so many things in life, not just photography.
I don’t want women to look back and wish they’d given themselves permission to do something they really wanted.
You don’t have to wait until you feel completely confident to book a boudoir session.
You can show up nervous, unsure, and wondering whether you can actually do this.
I’ll take care of the rest.
