Flattering Lingerie for All Body Types | Austin Boudoir Photographer

Choosing flattering lingerie for your boudoir session can feel a little overwhelming. With so many styles, cuts, and colors available, where do you even begin? The good news is that there is no single style that works for everyone. And, the best lingerie is the kind that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable in your own skin.

As an Austin boudoir photographer who has worked with dozens of women in my North Austin studio, I will guide you through every step of picking outfits when you book with me.

Because at Ingrid Barnhart Photography, my goal is to create beautiful, artistic portraits that celebrate your unique beauty. Whether you love delicate lace two piece, a dramatic bodysuit, or something a little more relaxed, we can find the perfect look for you!

And let me reassure you that it’s completely normal to be nervous about showing up in front of a camera in, um… very little clothing! Wearing lingerie can feel vulnerable, especially when you’re not sure what is flattering. You’re not alone! But that is what my job is as a photographer: to help you feel comfortable so you can access this incredibly empowering experience.

If you’re considering booking a boudoir session, but feel held back by not knowing what to wear, this post is for you.

Here are some tips & tricks for flattering lingerie I talk to my clients about!

Bodysuits That Celebrate Your Curves

If you want a little extra coverage while still creating a beautiful silhouette, a bodysuit is a fantastic option. These pieces can accentuate your natural curves and create the appearance of an hourglass figure. Look for styles with lace panels, strategic cutouts, or a defined waist to add dimension and shape.

A bodysuit can also be a wonderful choice if you’re feeling self-conscious about your stomach. You’ll still get that gorgeous lingerie look without worrying about constantly adjusting your outfit. Prefer a little more coverage for your arms? A long-sleeved bodysuit can be both elegant and flattering.

And don’t worry about knowing how to pose! I’ll guide you through poses and angles that highlight your favorite features. I promise, no one is thinking about the areas you’re insecure about as much as you are.

More Options for Flattering Lingerie? Two-Piece Sets, Corsets, and Beautiful Details

You can never go wrong with a classic two-piece lingerie set. And you can keep it as simple as you want! A matching black bra and thong can create timeless images. If you prefer something with a little more detail, consider lace, delicate straps, floral appliques or a high-waisted bottom.

Corset tops are another beautiful option. They offer structure and definition while adding a touch of vintage glamour. You can also experiment with different textures and silhouettes to create a variety of looks throughout your session.

The key is choosing pieces that fit well and make you feel good. You don’t need to squeeze into something uncomfortable to look incredible in your photographs.

Wear the Wings!

Another option you have is to use props for your session. I have flowing robes and oversized wings here at the studio! But we can also brainstorm whatever props feel most authentic to you.

I have had clients bring in their partner’s favorite football jersey! Another client brought in ass-chaps for a cowboy feel. Wearing props can help you bring out your personality, and be playful with the flattering lingerie you choose.

Not Comfortable in Lingerie? Try Something Different!

Your boudoir session should feel like YOU. If traditional lingerie isn’t your style, that’s more than okay!

A simple button-up shirt, a sheer robe, or a less revealing bodysuit can create beautiful, intimate portraits. In the studio, we can play with soft fabrics, dramatic shadows, and artistic lighting to create images that feel elegant and personal.

In addition, some clients like to take their boudoir photos with just a sheet and skip the lingerie all together. That can be a deeply empowering way to experience your session. So maybe instead of thinking about flattering lingerie, you need to be thinking outside the box!
